Privacy Policy

Teleprompter is designed to help users write, manage, and present scripts in a simple teleprompter interface. This Privacy Policy explains how the app handles information.

Information We Collect

The Android app currently does not require an account. Website customer accounts are optional for app use, but required to enter the customer dashboard. Registration collects your display name and email address. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash. The website also uses a session cookie to keep you signed in and temporarily stores a hashed network address to limit repeated login attempts. Scripts created in the app are stored locally on your device or browser. We also store the time your email is verified and hashed, expiring tokens for verification and password recovery. Your mailbox provider processes verification and reset messages sent to you.

User-Created Content

Any script text, titles, tags, or settings entered into the app remain under the user's control. The app does does not send native Android script content to the account server. In the website workspace, members can choose Cloud to save script titles, text, tags, status, reading speed and modification times on our hosting server. Automatic cloud saves are off by default and require your explicit selection after saving or loading a cloud library. Cloud scripts are associated with your signed-in customer account and are not shared with other customers or Paddle. They are stored in the private website database, not end-to-end encrypted.

Camera and Microphone

Teleprompter can record video while you read your script. Recording is entirely optional: the camera and microphone are only activated after you tap the camera control inside the prompter, and they are released as soon as you close the camera or leave the prompter.

Recordings are saved directly to your device's own video storage (the Movies/Teleprompter folder) and appear in your gallery. The app does not upload, transmit, or back up recordings, and it cannot read videos you recorded elsewhere. Your script text is displayed as an on-screen overlay only and is never written into the recorded file.

Sharing Your Recordings

Sharing is always started by you. When you tap a share button, Teleprompter hands the selected video file to the app you pick using Android's standard sharing mechanism. From that point the receiving app's own privacy policy applies. The current Android app does not send recordings or scripts to the website account server and has no connection to any social platform: it does not post on your behalf, does not sign you in, and does not read anything back from those apps. To list the share buttons, the app only checks which of a small, fixed set of apps are installed on your device; that information stays on the device and is never transmitted.

Device Permissions

Teleprompter requests the camera and microphone permissions described above. On Android 9 and older it also requests storage permission, which is the only way to save a recording to your gallery on those versions. The advertising-enabled Android builds also use internet access, network state and advertising ID. The app does not request contacts or location permission, and declining the camera permission leaves every other feature fully usable.

Data Sharing

We do not sell or trade customer account details. Website hosting necessarily processes account requests; when web billing is enabled, Paddle processes checkout details, payments and subscription management. The website sends your account name and email to Paddle when you choose a subscription. We store Paddle customer references, subscription status and transaction summaries, not payment card numbers. Support requests and replies are stored on our server and accessible to authorized support staff. See Paddle's Privacy Policy for its processing practices. Advertising-enabled Android versions include Google AdMob as described below. Offline builds do not include the advertising SDK.

Android Advertising and Privacy Choices

Google AdMob can process IP addresses, device and advertising identifiers, ad interactions, diagnostics, and approximate location inferred from IP addresses for advertising, fraud prevention and measurement. Script text and recordings are not sent to AdMob. Where required, Google's User Messaging Platform asks for privacy choices before requesting advertisements. You can reopen required choices using "Ad privacy choices" in the script library or editor. Declining personalized advertising does not disable teleprompter features. You can also manage your advertising ID in Android settings. See Google's Privacy Policy for its handling and retention of advertising data. AdMob is used in advertising-enabled Android builds, not in the website dashboard.

Data Retention and Deletion

Script content is retained locally until the user edits or deletes it. Users can delete scripts inside the app or clear the app's local data from device settings. Website account data stays on the server until you delete your account from the customer dashboard. Login-attempt records expire after 15 minutes. Verification links expire after 60 minutes and password-reset links after 30 minutes. Expired token records are removed when new tokens are issued; deleting your account removes its token records. Account deletion also removes your cloud library, website support requests and billing summaries. You can remove cloud scripts by saving an empty library. Local backups you download remain on your device. Active subscriptions must first be canceled and reach their end date. Paddle may retain financial records under its own policies.

Children's Privacy

Teleprompter is a productivity tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
